Spice Jars craft with Campbell's / Grand Stand for Schools / #1Millon4Edu #CollectiveBias / by My Sweet Zepol #ad

The first two generations in my family (my abuelitos and my parents), didn’t make it to high school or even college. From my generation only a few made it to college. Education is extremely important to me. As a mom of young kids I love getting involved in their schools. It gives me a sense of not only that I am helping out, but I’m also sewing in my kids lives. I remember my mom getting involved in my school’s activities and helping out. She couldn’t make it to high school and she didn’t speak much English, but she managed around and the best part of all is that she modeled a mom that cared and wanted the best for her kids. I like to believe I am doing the same for my girls.

I don’t leave education solely to the teachers, I believe that we as parents have a huge part to play. One thing we can do is help the school with funds so they can purchase items needed for classes. How can a school earn funds? Labels for Education is a fun and easy program where families and members of the community can work together to “Earn Free Stuff” for their school(s)! By collecting UPC’s from many participating products the school earns points that can be redeemed for Arts, Athletics, and Academics merchandise.

Once I was in Target getting some household items I couldn’t resist but check for products with labels for eduction tags on them. Not only I am feeding my family with great brands that I love, but it warms my heart to know that I am helping  our local school by earning points.

One thing I love to make at home is re-purpose empty jars and fill them with spices or tea bags. It makes a great homemade gift too. My family and friends have all gotten something homemade by me at some point.

Spice Jar {DIY}

Materials:

1 Empty Glass Jar

Washi Tape

1 Paint Brush

Chalkboard Paint

Content of your choice (spice, cinnamon or tea bags)

Directions:

Remove the Label for Education and save it for your school. Find the person in charge of collecting them and hand them over. You are helping your school tremendously. Thank you!

Clean the glass jar thoroughly with water and soap. Dry it well.

Use washi tape to make a square or rectangle pattern over the glass jar.

Using the paint brush paint chalkboard paint inside the washi tape.

Let it dry and repeat at least once more.

Remove the tape once you have finished all the layers you want, while paint is still wet. Once it dries it gets a little tricky to remove. By doing this step you will end up having clean lines and that is what you want.

Add what every you want to your jar, example: cinnamon sticks, chamomile flowers, tea bags, thyme leaves, seeds and so much more.

Write over the chalkboard paint the name of the content.

Make as many as you wish, the more the better.

Tip: The jars look better in multiples, plus they make a very lovely handmade gift.

Most of my past generations didn’t make it to school. I was very fortunate that I did and so did my siblings. We, as a community can help our kids and their schools. Go out and start purchasing items with the labels for education and drop it off at your kids school or if you don’t have kids in school just drop it off at your local school. I am sure they will appreciate the extra step. We can do it, together!
