My mother in law just turned 50!
Our family was celebrating this weekend my mother-in-law’s 50th birthday. It wouldn’t be a celebration if cake was not included. I came up with this funny idea to create her a cake with a $50 dollar tag. She had a great laugh out of it.
At first she didn’t want to cut into it, can’t really blame her, the purse was very cute. As the day was coming into an end she gave in after having her grand-daughter’s asking for some cake with ice cream.
The cake was Coconut with a smooth Coconut Frosting/Filling. The cake was covered in fondant and the purse straps were made out of gum-paste, because it hardens well enough to hold it’s shape. The zebra stripes were hand painted with black food color. I had so much fun making this cake. It was huge, this cake feeds about 45-50 people and I must say that we all together are only 10 people. A lot of cake for so many weight conscious people, funny… ha!
I did take some pictures and hope you not only love it as much as we all did, but feel inspired to make your own for that special lady in your life… like my lovely mom in law!
Happy Birthday Ileana!
