Back to school must haves for high school students!
It’s that time of year again, walking down the aisles of your local department stores and seeing those “Back-to-School” posters and school supplies by the dozens on sale. Every wallets nightmare and kids chances for clean and brand new school supplies. Though many of us students hate the thought of returning to school, we cannot resist the thought of shopping for a new year of learning. Here you can find a general list for school supplies, followed by some necessities I have found useful to have over the years.
General School Supplies Checklist:
- Backpack
- Lunch box
- Water bottle
- Pens
- Pencils
- Pencil Box/Pouch
- Glue Sticks
- Highlighters
- Colored pencils/ markers (optional, mainly for those into the arts)
- Pencil Sharpener
- Erasers
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Mini Stapler
- Calculator
- Notecards/Flashcards
- Binder
- Tip: If you like them, over the years I have found folders to be more helpful for me
- Folders (optional)
- Notebooks/composition books
- Tip: I try to have at least 3 1-2 subject notebooks with me for the first day of school, but every class is different and you may find yourself going to the stores after school starts to get the right number and type of notebooks/composition books you may need.
- Planner/Agenda
- Locker accessories (optional)
- These may include: magnetic mirror, shelf divider, and magnetic white board calendar to stick on the locker for weekly reminders!
- Loose Leaf Notebook Paper (I recommend at least 2 packs)
- And last but not least, a flash drive
Now on to the extras that can be very useful for the school year:
- Travel-size deodorant to stay fresh
- Travel-size wipes to stay fresh
- Travel-size tissues for the cold winters and sick seasons
- Perfume/cologne
- Chapstick/lipstick
- Travel-size lotion
- Mints/Gum
- Compact mirror
- Headphones and chargers for laptops and phones
- And finally, for my female friends:
- A small/medium makeup bag in which you can keep some makeup for touch ups
- Pads and travel-size Advil (or any pain medicine you love to take)
What are some of your “must haves” for when school comes around? Let me know in the comment section below!
Hi! I’m Paloma, CCC (Creative Content Creator) for My Sweet Zepol. I’m a college student, love the outdoors – especially if it includes water – and experimenting with new things; whether it’s new classes or new recipes. You’ll find me enjoying a slice of cake or ice cream while brainstorming the next fashionable outfit or post ideas.
Love the ideas of this… the things I believe important for school is a planner where you are able to stay on top of things and be on time.
Back to school was always a nightmare for me who was in a boarding high school although I actually enjoyed shopping for the same.Your checklist is awesome although for my extras were a lot of junks and drinks! Glad this was accepted in my school.
I remember being the most accident prone kid when I was in high school. For that reason I always kept band aids in my locker. SO much easier than trying to convince every teacher to let me go to the nurse’s office.
My boys do not have lockers so they need a backpack to carry everything. A planner is a must have for kids so they can stay organized.
This is a good reminder. I like the charger idea. Those are going to be super useful for the school year
I’m not in high school and I want so many of these just because lol. My kids are very young, but I am obsessed with back to school supplies.
Yup, I agree! My son has a bunch of this stuff and he’s off to high school. I still need to buy a lot more of it! Ack!
This is such a great list to take shopping! When I was in high school I was all about having a cute makeup bag!
Oh, I always had to have those optional items for high school. It seemed like I always had a cold so I used a lot of tissues and chap stick.
This is a fantastic list. My son is starting high school in September and I am dreading the shopping.
Everything they need is definitely not on the official school list! I love your suggestion of a jump drive, and a little cosmetic bag for teen girls. My daughter always likes to have her lotion, lip gloss and perfume handy!
Nice lists! I love that you added in the extras. I have to admit, it’s weird to see headphones and chargers on a back to school list. I’m getting OLD! lol
I think this is a great list. I’m already done shopping for my girls for school. They start back up on August 27th. They’re both very excited to go back too.
Oh high school. I cringe at the thought. My oldest has a year left till high school. What a great back to school list!
You have a great check list for back to school students. Planner agenda is one of the important item, start to plan your schedule for the week, month for any school activites.
Back to school shopping was always so much fun for me. I want that bag/tote. It’s so cute!
Agree, we love back to school shopping. And that bag is also my favorite! You can grab one here Wanda Lopez Designs Shop. They have the cutest bags and are now on sale.
My mom did most of the back to school shopping this year for my kids. I just realized that I have to compare the list to what she actually got. School is coming soon!
We have not gotten our school supply list yet. I know it’s going to be extensive.
All these make me want to go back to school. I wish I could just indulge in these things instead of worrying about life! sigh!
Well, it looked like this list was for me.But in my area, we cannot take these extras to school except handkerchief. But I like the list overall but yes like the idea of school planner, it will surely help the children and parents to keep track of their homework and activities.
Wow, you really have a great list of stuff that a high school student must. Having a planner is so important that will help you not to forget those important things like homework, project, dates of quizzes and exams.
This is a thoughtful post. Great that you were able to itemize those back to school essentials.
absolutely love that you blog with your mom. my mom helps me out with some of my blog posts as well. what a special activity to do together 🙂
I have an 8th grader now. Next year she starts HS, so it will be fun. Im sure its going to require more things than before… more money for sure. *sigh*
Great post! My community group just put together backpacks for kids going back to school filled with school supplies. It’s sad how some families are not able to provide these much needed supplies for their kids, but I’m glad we were able to put together 75 filled backpacks this year!
Fantastic list! I will share this information with my sister. Thanks for sharing
I am so glad I am not going back to school or don’t have kids right now. So much work! I love the bag though! super pretty!
It has been way to long since I have been in school but I love education of any kind. And organization!
Two of my grandkids are in high school this year so I’ve been on a hunt for fun things for them to use at school. I haven’t even thought about quite a few things on your list so I need to get started on shopping.
everything is changing all the time and I always feel like when i talk to my friends who have young brothers or sisters still in high school it throws me off every time i think i am in and it turns out i am not so this is great.
