My first job was in a bakery. I was about 16 years old and loved that experience deeply. The smell of cakes was intense and irresistible. While working there I met my husband and fell deeply in love with him. It was sweet since the very beginning. His favorite dessert was a guava and cream cheese pastry dessert and I wanted to recreate it for him. Remembering the old days!
I wanted to share this memories with you and also share the recipe. You can make it for your love one too!
Guava and Cream Cheese Pastry Bars
Ingredients:
4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoon cornstarch
1 puff pastry sheet (thawed)
1/2 cup guava paste
1 large egg (lightly beaten)
Directions:
Heat oven to 375 degrees.
Beat cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice and cornstarch in a medium bowl with an electric mixer until smooth.
Roll pastry on floured surface into a 12×9 inch rectangle. Cut in half crosswise, making two 9×6 in rectangles. Place on half on prepared baking sheet. You can either spray the pan with cooking spray or put a piece of parchment paper on it.
Stir guava paste until smooth. Spread onto pastry to within an inch of edge. Then spoon cream cheese mixture evenly over the guava paste.
Brush edges of pastry with beaten egg. Top with second half of pastry. Press edges with a fork to seal. Brush top with beaten egg.
Bake 30 minutes or until puffed and golden. Cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack. Cool completely. Cut into 6 bars.
Enjoy and repeat the recipe as many times as needed!!!
Note: You can also replace the guava paste with your favorite jam.
