The reminder of my struggle is firmly rooted in the fact that I enjoy eating, felt busy to even consider exercising, and sometimes use food as an emotional outlet. Do you identify yourself? Consequently, my weight has fluctuated over the years like a championship yo-yo.

Marriage, motherhood, work, ridiculously crowded schedules, and long to-do lists. All contributed to not spending enough time on a healthy lifestyle. Either due to lack of time or lack of energy. You may be nodding your head right now. Feel my pain, right?

Tips to improve your lifestyle

1. Eliminate Diets

Replacing all “diets” with a “healthy eating plan.”

Fad diets are quick fixes and rarely do they work in the long run. A healthy eating plan requires a lifestyle change, and it’s not just a matter of how much we weigh, but also what we eat. A healthy eating plan also honors God. 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV)

One of my go-to healthy meals for lunch or even dinner is this refreshing lentil salad recipe. It’s super easy to make and filling.

2. Move

My youngest daughter believed that opening and closing the refrigerator was her favorite exercise. When I heard her words I felt worried because I didn’t exercise my body and neither did she. We both start by setting realistic goals, 15 minutes a day, three times a week. Gradually increasing the time to 30 minutes a day, five days a week. Now we walk every day for 30 minutes and we have that time to talk and create a special bond that will last a lifetime. That is what I call choosing a healthy lifestyle with a dual purpose or effect.

3. Learn to Rest

Rest is not an option if we want to function in the best way. Sometimes we keep busy because we are afraid to face our past or even the future. Guilt keeps us moving, trying to prove our worth. Someone once told me that just because you’re moving around all day doesn’t mean you’re going anywhere – it’s sad, but true. Living at full throttle is not the way to live. When I do, the result has always been burnout and sometimes low productivity. This may be another identifiable moment for you.
